Additions and Renovations

DiDonato Associates provided planning, design and construction management services to implement the first phase additions and renovations of the existing twin ice rink complex. Phase I, of a multi-phase project, provided complete upgrades to the rinks 40-year old building systems.  This included underground utilities, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, power, lighting and electrical systems, and building controls.  The building systems upgrades were designed to meet the Energy Conservation Measures as determined by the New York Power Authority.  Faced with an aggressive construction schedule, DiDonato Associates provided extended services to ensure the facility was operational for the start of the hockey season.  Completed work included both rink areas, new cooling tower, two new dehumidification units, electrical room and the addition of a 1,100 SF ice resurfacing room with integral ice melting pit, and high efficiency boiler room serving the entire 68,000 SF complex.

The new main entry and warming area upgrades are apparent as soon as  one enters the space.  Durable, efficient, and attractive—the warming area also provides public restrooms, offices for the rink manager(s), skate rental, pro shop, and full service concession stand.  The warming area also serves as the connection between the 1930s stone comfort station  and the twin ice rinks.
