DiDonato is happy to announce the following staffing changes:

New Hires:

Daniel Schneider, PE, SE
Vice President, Structural – Buildings

Dan began working with DiDonato as an Intern while going to college.  After graduating from UB as a Civil/Structural Engineer in 2010, he was with DiDonato for five years.  He then re-located to the Boston area for three years, but has recently decided to return to Buffalo and to DiDonato, and we are excited to have him back.  Before he left, Dan had obtained his NYS Professional Engineering License.  During his three year absence, he also obtained his Professional Structural Engineering license, a difficult 16-hour exam using separate vertical and lateral components to test the ability to safely design buildings, especially in areas of high seismicity and high wind.  The pass rate for this test is 29% (buildings-lateral) and 40% (buildings-vertical), so it is quite an accomplishment.  Dan will be in charge of all buildings–structural projects, supervising project and junior engineers.

Kathryn Huurman
Junior Civil Engineer

Katie also served as an intern with DiDonato during her last semester of college, graduating from UB with a BS in Civil Engineering in 2018.  Her work includes a number of municipal projects such as streets and sidewalks rehabilitation, culvert replacements and site plan designs.  Her memberships include: Seismic Design, which is a part of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), 2017; WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering), 2014; and TEPC (Theme Park Engineering Club), 2017.

Glenn Drue
Construction Inspector

Glenn has 20 years of experience in monitoring construction operations and workmanship to ensure conformance with the contract documents. He provides on-site field testing that complies with NYSDOT Standard Specification for Construction, the Manual for Uniform Record Keeping (MURK), the performance of field measurements and the collection of data necessary to document the execution of work. His work includes public improvement permit projects, water system improvement projects, and roadway and bridge rehabilitation projects. He recently provided inspection services for the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Runway 14-32 Rehabilitation project.  His Certifications include:  NICET Level II Inspector; American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician – Grade 1; Cornell Local Road Program, Work Zone Safety; and FHWA-NHI 133112 – Design and Operations of Work Zone Traffic Control.

Victoria Singsavatdy
Assistant Team Leader Trainee

Tori has joined DiDonato as part of our Assistant Team Leader Trainee program for the Biennial Bridge Inspection Contract with NYS Department of Transportation. The Program’s purpose is to train and provide increased opportunities for minorities and women in the engineering consultant industry.  Tori has her Associates Degree in Engineering Science from Erie Community College and is attending UB for a Bachelor’s in Math.  She will be working on DiDonato’s NYSDOT Region 4 Biennial Bridge Inspection program contract, which involves the inspection of over 1,090 bridges and 2,450 spans.

Promotion:

Jeffrey Blank, PE
Vice President, Structural – Bridges

Jeff has 25 years of experience in structural/civil engineering and over 17 years in bridge rehabilitation/ replacement.  He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Tri-State University (now Trine University) in 1993 and began working at DiDonato in 1999. He has a thorough knowledge of the various codes such as AASHTO, AISC, ACI, and the NYSDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges.  He has worked on multiple bridge replacement projects for Erie County, Cattaraugus County, and the City of Buffalo including Jamison Road, Freedom Road, and Hopkins Street, as well as working with the City of Buffalo on their bridge rehabilitation program for the past 10 years.  In addition, he is an experienced bridge inspector with a thorough knowledge of the current NYSDOT Bridge Inspection Program.  Because of this extensive bridge experience, he was recently named Vice President, Structural – Bridges and will be in charge of all bridge–structural projects, supervising project and junior engineers.

BEAM Sr. Dinner Gala

By | News

DiDonato was proud to be a sponsor of the 2018 Buffalo Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) Senior Dinner Gala, which was held on Thursday, May 31 at the Grapevine Banquet Facility.  As part of the celebration, John DiDonato established and distributed two Scholarships in honor of his father, Norman DiDonato, who passed away in March of this year.  Students wrote an essay about their experience with BEAM, their plans for education, and how they overcame any obstacles they have faced in their lives.  They also stated how they believe engineering will  impact the future.  All the essays were very well done.  It was hard for John to select just two.

In the end, he selected Brandon McDonald, who is looking to obtain a Ph.D. in Engineering and Nykolus Charter, who will be going to school for Mechanical Engineering.  Both students have worked hard, and taken advantage of the opportunities and resources that were available to them to be successful, including the BEAM program.

DiDonato Associates is proud of all the BEAM Graduates and wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Our East Spring Street Rehabilitation project has been collecting a few awards lately.  This street improvement project involved the use of “green infrastructure” design elements such as bioretention planters, permeable pavement, and a vegetated “green wall” to assist with decreasing the storm water runoff from the roadway into Glen Falls Park in Williamsville, New York.  As part of the overall rehabilitation and development of the old Water Mill area, DiDonato is proud to have been a part of this successful project for the Village.  See our Project Gallery section for more detailed information on this project.

Recent awards include:

  • APWA NY Chapter | 2017 Project of the Year Award – Environment
  • APWA WNY Chapter | 2017 Project of the Year Award – Environment
  • Erie County Environmental Management Council | Environmental Excellence Award
